Viva La Vinyl
Parannoul is an anonymous South Korean musician, and I guess the genre of music this is, is South Korean Shoegaze. Sort of like a mix of every era of Radiohead playing at the same time, if you can imagine how that would sound. Little bird sounds here and there to remind you of the outside world, but maybe I’m heading stuff from outside? I wasn’t wearing headphones, so I can’t tell.
I found out about this artist from either a review of To See The Next Part Of The Dream or a mention of that album in 2021 Best Of lists. After listening, I was immediately All In.
This album came out near the beginning of the year and it was a no-brainer for me to snag it. However, I had to wait for the vinyl to come out last month. One of those instances of forgetting I ordered it and then it shows up out of nowhere. A pre-Christmas miracle!
There’s a little bit of noise on the first side, but I might have missed a spot cleaning it1. It’s easier for me to see the cleaning fluid from the brush if the vinyl is less opaque and more transparent.
Like the Sigur Rós album I talked about before this, non-English lyrics don’t activate the language center of my brain, so it’s a lot easier to become absorbed in the music. It also allows me to have some bandwidth to read or write at the same time. Like how I’m writing this right now!
The vinyl version has an extra track that’s not on the Bandcamp album download, “Your Place,” and it’s literally one of the best tracks on the album! (I wonder what that link for the name of the song is?)
