Don’t worry everyone, this isn’t their last album. At least that’s what they want us to believe...

It’s been a while since the last proper Explosions album. They had a soundtrack out in 2021, and before that was an album in 2016! That’s back when I was making my first podcast!

The work on my 2016 Year End rankings for the old Listen Up! podcast... Man, I miss Savages.

Taking into account their previous release, the Big Bend soundtrack, this is a welcome return to rocking out. I like their soundtrack stuff okay, but it’s not what gripped my brain stem way back when I first found them on Pandora¹.

This has their more structured sound, instead of the ambient wash meant to accompany visuals. Songs versus soundscapes. Structure instead of exploration.

It’s a slight shame that the Deprogrammed episode about Explosions In The Sky came out earlier this year, before this album was released, because I really think there is a song or two that could have made it onto the list they made.
