MONO - Heaven (vol. 1)
This is another surprise end of the year release from MONO like their Scarlet Holiday EP from 2 years ago that the vinyl took about a year to show up. This one, however, was a bit more timely.
I don’t know if it’s because I had recently listened to the Deprogrammed episode on Explosions In The Sky, but there are some similar vibes between the two on this. Somewhat less ambient and spectral than their most recent soundtrack work. The kick drum sounds particularly iconic on “Lucia.”
This is definitely a good introduction point for the band if you’ve never heard them. And this is also a reminder to myself that I need to go back into their catalog a little deeper before the next EP comes out at the end of this year, or their next supposed album … fingers crossed?
